As the Art Director and Producer for Verywell Health's condition explainer series, I established a robust visual strategy and modular production pipeline used across a vast library of patient-facing digital media. Designed to capture and retain high-intent search traffic, this overarching framework was scaled and implemented systematically throughout the entire flagship series, addressing complex medical conditions like Migraines, Epilepsy, Breast Cancer, and more.
While this macro structure successfully governed the global video catalog, this case study focuses specifically on the execution of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) series to showcase how the system functioned in practice.

Condition-Specific Color Taxonomy
Medical content frequently risks looking clinical or uniform, which can cause user fatigue. To balance master brand compliance with deep, condition-specific empathy, I developed a context-aware color strategy that was replicated across every topic in the ecosystem:
The Blueprint: While maintaining a consistent corporate anchor to Verywell's master branding, each video sub-series was assigned a custom palette that directly reflected the global advocacy and awareness colors most associated with that specific condition.
The MS Series (Focus Area): Because orange is the official color for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness—representing strength, hope, and the biological fight against inflammation—the entire MS package was built around a warm, orange-based palette, as seen with the MS series.
The Broader Catalog: This template scaled seamlessly across the health hub. For instance, the video series addressing Breast Cancer deployed a dedicated pink-based palette, while distinct, intentional color profiles were engineered for Migraines and Epilepsy, allowing users to immediately recognize the specific medical center they were navigating.

Visual Vocabulary & Asset Framework
To streamline a heavy production schedule without sacrificing clinical accuracy, I created a rigorous, repeatable design and motion language. The parameters below were established as universal project standards, allowing our team to reuse assets intelligently across different conditions while maintaining premium visual quality:
Anatomical Body Mapping: Created modular internal mapping assets (showing the brain, nervous system, and organs) to cleanly illustrate physiological changes. In Myelin Sheath, this system was used to visually map how immune cells target and strip the nerve's protective coating.
Radiating Vectors: Implemented a standardized use of radiating lines across the entire condition library to symbolize abstract medical concepts like nerve impulses, cellular activity, or localized symptoms (such as pain flare-ups or muscle spasticity).
Demographic & Character Consistency: Mandated that the target character models in each series reflect the demographic most statistically impacted by the condition. For the MS series, the animation assets consistently featured female characters to maximize patient relatability and data accuracy.
Authoritative Doctor Representation: Integrated a recurring medical counsel character archetype across the timeline, grounding complex physiological data in trusted, clinical guidance.
Unified Iconography: Managed a shared asset database of crisp, geometric icons (microscopes, pill bottles, vitamin capsules, and charts) to keep layouts organized, clear, and scannable.

The condition explainer ecosystem successfully transformed dense, clinical jargon into an empathetic and highly accessible patient resource. By setting up a strict macro framework and proving its viability through the Multiple Sclerosis series, our creative team drastically minimized design overhead, accelerated deployment timelines, and built a recognizable, comforting visual authority across Verywell Health’s highest-performing digital traffic hubs.
